The Perfect Highchair

Hi Everyone!

It has been a while since I last blogged. Ever since I got back from my 4-month maternity leave, there has been some changes at work and I was busy adjusting to the new life as a working mom as well as the new challenges that come with the new portfolio at work. Finally I feel like things has slowly started to settle and I have adjusted to the "new norm" - work during the day and try to spend as much time as I could with my precious little one at night and during the weekends.

My little girl is now 7 months old. Can you believe it? Time has passed by so quickly! She is now one little eager explorer. She can now crawl all over the house and stand while holding on to something. She loves standing - she will try to stand at every chance she gets. It has also been over a month since we introduced her to solid food and I have to be grateful that so far she is not a picky eater.

We have been using the Mamas&Papas Baby Snug floor support seat (picture below) during feeding and now that we have established a 3 times daily feeding routine we thought it is time for us to invest in a high chair so that she could join us at the dining table.

So, I was in search of the perfect high chair for my baby. So what were the things I look for in finding the perfect highchair?

  • Safety - This is the most important criteria. It is very important that the high chair comes with a sturdy wide base and 5-point-harness to ensure my baby is safe and snug with no chance of slipping down or climbing out of the high chair.

  • Portable with Adjustable Height - I was looking for a chair with adjustable height as we have two dining tables in our house and we want our baby to be able  to join us at both tables. We also need a chair that is not too heavy and portable so we could just move it around the house. Perhaps when she is older we can move the chair to the living area and she can enjoy some snacks while watching her favourite show on TV.

  • Easy to clean - Mealtimes can be very messy at times and we need the chair to be easy to clean with wipe-able seat and easy to clean trays.

  • Value for Money - We were also looking for a chair that can be used for longer time period and durable enough that we could re-use it for our future children.

Guess what, we finally found the perfect chair that fits with all the criteria we were looking for and more! I am excited to share with all of you the latest addition to my dining table...

The Cosatto Noodle Supa in Flamingo Fling

The Cosatto Noodle Supa features 6 adjustable heights with 3 reclining positions, Easy to clean with pop-off tray and wipe-able and fully removable seat cover, 5-point harness, comfortable padded seat with adjustable footrest, sturdy and folds up easily and can be used from 6 months up to 3 years old. Not to mention that the design is also very quirky and it definitely makes my dining area livelier! It retails at RM755, we got ours from my place to shop for baby stuffs - Jumpingbabyjacks. (However I believe the price has increased slightly recently to RM835, but still I believe that is a worthy investment)

I leave you guys with a short video of the Cossato Noodle Supa so you can see for yourselves what a brilliant piece of baby furniture the highchair is!

Till Then, Have fun at your family meal time!

Unboxing the Beaba Babycook Solo

Hi Everyone!!

First solid is a very important baby milestone and is one that I look forward to. I enjoy cooking for my husband and now I can start cooking for my little one, too! Like any other overly-excited first time mothers, I was in search for the perfect steamer/blender. Note that if you have a steamer and a blender separately in your kitchen already you may not need this. I just like the fact that I have a dedicated cooking equipment for my baby. I researched and reviewed a few Steamer/Blender for baby food in the market, such as the Avent Steamer/Blender, The Little Bean Multi Function Food Processor, The Cherub Natriblend and a few others  but, this Beaba Babycook seems to top the charts.

I got mine from jumpingbabyjacks, my favourite go-to place when it comes to buying stuffs for my baby. Did price comparisons from a few online stores, and jumpingbabyjacks seems to give the best offer.

The Beaba Babycook Solo retails at RM699 with a choice of one out of two free gift - the Beaba Bento Box or the fill& squeeze food pack. I chose the Beaba Bento Box worth RM123. On top of that they throw in free shipping via Skynet, too. I told you, jumpingbabyjacks always have the best deals. Plus, their customer service is superb. I was in touch with Joanne through Whatsapp and she was very helpful in giving recommendations and patient in answering all of my queries.

  • Fast: Cook in less than 15 min!
  • Ingenious: Open and close the lids with one hand thanks to the Easy clip system
  • Healthy: Preserves vitamins and nutrients
  • Auto shut-off feature
  • Sound signal at the end of the cooking cycle
  • Backlit screen
  • Descaling indicator will turn red to indicate that descaling is required
  • Removable cable for easy storage
  • Includes:  Recipe booklet (created by a nutritionist for babies from 6 to 24 months old), cooking basket, spatula to lift the baskets and scraping out the bowls, mixing lid/smoothie filter.

I am very happy with my purchase. It is definitely a good addition to my kitchen gadgets. I guess once my baby has outgrown baby food, I can still use this Babycook for normal cooking. I am planning to use this Beaba Babycook for my baby's first solid this weekend and I will post another review on its functionality. I shall end this post with this cute summary video of the functions and usage of the Beaba Babycook Solo and it comes with recommended recipes too!

Things I Don't Regret Buying for My Baby

Hi Guys!

It's me! I am back from my 4-month maternity break and is now ready to share my still very limited experience on motherhood.. so here goes...

5 Things I Don't Regret Buying for My Baby

  • Stokke Flexi Bath and Newborn Body Support

If you’re a first-time mom like me, bathing your newborn baby can be a daunting experience. I mean, she’s tiny and fragile, and using soap and water on her will make her skin very slippery. Having to hold her firmly whilst also needing to wash her will make you feel like you want to grow octopus hands. Of course, the last thing you wanna do is to hurt her while you’re trying to bathe her. The best way to bathe a newborn baby is to place her on a sturdy yet comfortable body support and have both your hands free to do all the things you need while bathing her. I find the Stokke Flexi Bath and Newborn Body Support very useful. My baby is comfortable when placed on the body support even during her first week as it follows the natural curve of the baby’s body making bath time a very enjoyable experience for both mommy and baby. Almost 5 months down the road, my baby absolutely loves bath time. She loves it the most when I trickle water down her face! Recently, we have started using the swimtrainer and let her swim in our bath tub once a week and it is without a doubt, our favourite time of the week!

The body support attaches quite easily on the tub. The tub folds compactly for easy storage and is great for traveling too. Stokke Flexi Bath and Newborn Body Support retails are sold separately, available at Mothercare outlets.

  • Mothercare Diaper Pail

A baby wets and soils her diapers like nobody’s business. On average you will have to change her 6 times a day. Weather you use disposable or reusable diapers, a diaper pail will help you keep the odor at bay, preventing the dirty diaper smell from wafting through your home. I know there are some diaper pails in the market that are very high-tech, with stainless steel exterior and carbon filters and whatnots, but they also come with a hefty price tag. This particular one I got from Mothercare is easy to use, perfect in doing the job to control the smell, good in size, not too big and not too small; enough to contain 1 or 2 days’ worth of soiled diapers and it is affordable too. The only downside is that it doesn’t have a foot pedal for hands free usage.

  • Fisher-Price Discover 'n Grow Kick and Play Piano Gym

We first introduced our baby to the activity gym when she was about 4 weeks old. She totally loves her gym time! She will start kicking the piano, gazing at her reflection from the mirror and try to grab the hanging toys. This activity gym is good to strengthen baby’s motor skills, enhance eye-hand coordination as well as help baby understand the magic of cause and effect; the piano will play different music at every kick. I find that this activity gym keeps my baby entertained for at least 15-20 minutes. I normally use it two to three times a day and it gives me enough time to do a round of laundry or steal a quick power nap while my baby is happily distracted playing with the gym!,This activity gym can be used multiple ways - whilst lying down during her newborn stage and as the baby grows the arch can be easily moved down and the piano can be swiveled up for play during tummy time or sitting down.  Something that is multifunctional and could grow with your baby is definitely worth the investment!

  • Medela Freestyle Breast Pump

If you’re a planning on breastfeeding, I cannot stress enough the importance of investing on a good pump. I like the Medela freestyle for many reasons. First and foremost, I like the Medela freestyle because it is compact and lightweight so it is very easy to lug around. Next, it has a rechargeable battery. It takes a couple of hours to charge the battery to full and depending on your usage, the battery could last about 2-3 days! If you buy the complete package, two sizes of breast shields will be provided – 23mm and 27mm. I use the 27mm and it fits perfectly. I started using the pump as early as when my baby was one week old. I know that most breastfeeding textbook will tell you that you should not introduce bottle too early as it will inhibit the baby’s desire to direct feed. Well I believe that statement is not entirely true. Every baby is different in character and you have to really experiment to understand your baby. I am lucky enough that my baby does not prefer one over the other; she takes both bottle and direct feeding just the same. So mothers, do experiment. I am not encouraging bottle feeding, don’t get me wrong. I agree that direct feeding is always the best and in the perfect ideal world, every mother should direct feed. But in the real world, especially with working mothers, exclusive direct feeding is absolutely impossible. Some reviews in the internet mentioned that the suction of Medela Freestyle is not as good as hospital-grade pumps, and I really can’t compare as the freestyle is the only breast pump I own, but I can assure you this pump is the winner if portability and functionality are the two qualities you look for in a breast pump.

  • Ring Sling Baby Carrier

I am not a big fan of baby wearing, to be honest, but I was desperate. My baby hates the stroller. Whenever we go out we always ended up using the stroller as a trolley for our shopping bags and having to carry her as well, which was a pain to our shoulders and arms. The ring sling baby carrier was our savior. Our baby is happy in the ring sling, most of the time sleeping or enjoying the view and the closeness to the parental unit. Also we have both our hands free and it gives support to the baby’s weight, enough to not give us a backache after a full day outing. It is also lightweight, and easy to carry around. Just fold it and store it in the diaper bag when not in use. Now that our baby is almost 5 months old and could sit down assisted, we have started to train her in the stroller again and she has started to enjoy sitting in her stroller, so phew! However, we will still use the baby carrier for when we go out to busy areas where pushing a stroller would be an inconvenience.

Till Then, Happy Buying!

From Hollywood & The White House to Daddyhood – Parenting Tips from Celebrity Dads

Hi everyone, how have you all been? I know it’s been slightly over a month since our last post but I’ve been busy with work and other commitments and Liv is enjoying her new baby. As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder so we hope that you’ve missed us badly and are glad that one of us is back!*winks*

If you can recall, my previous post was about parenting advice from Celebrity Mums. But don’t forget, Daddies too have their share of wisdom to impart on fatherhood and what it means to be a father. So to be fair to the VIP in a kid’s life (we all know who the VVIP is, don't we?), this one’s all about the Dads. Enjoy!

Michael J. Fox
"Always be available to your kids. Because if you say, 'Give me 5 minutes, give me 10 minutes', it'll be 15, it'll be 20. And then when you get there, the shine will have worn off whatever it is they wanted to share with you. I've never gotten up to see something one of my kids wanted to show me and not been rewarded."

Chris Pratt
“I’ve done all kinds of cool things as an actor – I’ve jumped out of helicopters and done some daring stunts and played baseball in a professional stadium, but none of it means anything compared to being somebody’s daddy.”

President Obama
“As fathers, we need to be involved in our children’s lives not just when it’s convenient or easy, and not just when they’re doing well – but when it’s difficult and thankless, and they’re struggling. That is when they need us most.”

Denzel Washington
"I try to teach my children there are going to be obstacles. Someone may not like you just because they don't like themselves. But, don't you get bogged down."

Mario Lopez
“No matter what drama I deal with at work, when I get home and hear them scream, “Daddy!” I forget whatever it was I was stressed about.”

Bruce Willis
"Your kids need your love and attention, and being able to devote myself to them is very fulfilling. As I get older, spending time with my daughters makes things much easier. You learn to put your ego aside."

Ewan McGregor
"Pay attention: I recognize it can be boring to play with young children – to tell a story over and over again, let’s say – but the secret is being there. If you’ve made a decision to play with your children, then play with them. Don’t be looking through papers on your desk or sneaking off to the computer. Turn off your BlackBerry. Lose yourself in their world. Even if you do it for a short time, it will mean a lot to you and to them."

Will Smith
“With our kids, Jada and I believe that it’s their lives and we are helping them with their lives. And they’re not our property. They are people that are deservant of our respect and consideration in the same way that any other human being should be.”

David Beckham
“I was selfish before, everyone is. But when you have kids they become your main priority…making sure they are OK, making sure they are healthy, happy.”

Jamie Foxx
“I think the best thing to try to do is allow your daughter or your son to know that they can come to you for anything. If you can break down that wall so they don’t feel embarrassed by telling you things, that’s half the battle.”

Tom Cruise
“I love it. I love being a father. I always wanted to. As a kid, I couldn’t wait to grow up. I remember being four years old – I always wanted to work and grow up. I always wanted to be a father.”

Ashton Kutcher
“It’s the greatest thing on Earth. As soon as this child was born, I immediately wanted to call my parents and just apologize because I never knew how much they loved me.”
Channing Tatum
"I've never protected the president [in real life], but I have been a new dad, and I can tell you that being a new dad is pretty terrifying. I'm pretty sure that something about the president makes the stakes a little higher, but to me as a new father, nothing is more important or scary than protecting a daughter."

Mark Wahlberg
“I want to give my kids the world, but I also want them to appreciate everything, to succeed, to be good people, to enjoy life. This is my most important role. If I fail at this, I fail at everything.”

Patrick Dempsey
"There's something comforting in a house full of kids. It surprises me, because I usually like being alone, but I'm really loving it. Kids take you outside your comfort level because you ask yourself, How do I answer that question for them? You think back to your childhood, and it's like: I don't want to give them that, I want to give them this. My life is my children."

Brad Pitt
"Fatherhood is the best thing I ever did. It changes your perspective. You can write a book, you can make a movie, you can paint a painting, but having kids is really the most extraordinary thing I have taken on."

From Hollywood to Mommyhood – Parenting Tips from Celebrity Moms

Great news, everyone! Heartiest congratulations to Liv who has just welcomed a beautiful baby early this month! Boy or girl? Well, you’ll just have to wait for Liv to tell you herself. My lips are sealed.*grins*

So what do you give someone who has just become a mom for the first time in her life? Tips on how to be a good parent of course! And wouldn’t it be fun if those words of support and encouragement came from mothers who are super famous?

Mind you, these moms may have it easy with their personal entourage of nannies, chefs, assistants and what-nots, but when you think about it, it doesn’t matter how much money or the amount of hired help you have at your disposal. It all comes down to each mom just trying to do what's best for her kids. So this one’s for you Liv, and all the other new mommies out there – parenting advice from celebrity moms! Enjoy!

Reese Witherspoon
"No one feels 100 percent confident as a parent. We are all just trying our best. As long as you are always trying to be better at it - reading parenting blogs in the bath, swapping stories with other moms during a yoga class, googling how to talk about puberty with your preteen - you are doing a good job."

Jennifer Garner
“If you look at the pictures taken every day of my life, you’ll see that I do not make it work most of the time. I am in jeans that are on the floor from last night and one of the five T-shirts that I rotate. I do know moms who pull it together every day – I am not one of them. But when I do, I try to really pull it together so it makes some kind of impact. Sometimes, for yourself, you just need to take a shower, put on something clean, put on a little blush and go out the door.”

Julia Roberts
"I try to call my mother, Betty, with more regularity because I think, 'What if Hazel didn’t call me for two weeks?' I’m able to see her mothering now from a different vantage point.”

Heidi Klum
“Roll with the flow. Our house is full of life, laughter, and mayhem. Every dinnertime, something spills. Or they are wearing uniforms for school, and when we have breakfast in the morning, food gets all over their hands. You can tell them a thousand times, ‘Do not wipe it on your pants,’ and sure enough, they wipe it on their pants. But that’s when you roll with it. My house is not like a museum - you can't sit here and you can't touch this and everything has to be put in its place. You can see that children live there. It’s their house as much as mine. You come into our house and a giant elephant and lion are welcoming you. We have toys and things everywhere."

Nicole Richie
"My kids operate best when I let them have a voice and I really explain things to them. Because, really, kids want to be told the truth. They just want you to be truthful. They know you more than you know yourself."
Kate Winslet
“To me, parenting is about consistency, among other things, and routine. Children love routine. They like to know when they’re going to have lunch, and in what order things will happen during their day.”

Victoria Beckham
"I really enjoy being a mom, I love my children and I’d do anything for them. But I also love what I do. I think anyone who says it’s easy is lying."

Tina Fey
“I think every working mom probably feels the same thing: You go through big chunks of time where you’re just thinking, ‘This is impossible – oh, this is impossible.’
And then you just keep going and keep going, and you sort of do the impossible.”

Nicole Kidman
"My instinct is to protect my children from pain. But adversity is often the thing that gives us character and backbone. It's always been a struggle for me to back off and let my children go through difficult experiences."

Uma Thurman
"You know how parents rattle on to you about, 'Oh, you won't believe your life will never be the same,' and you think, Why can't these people just get over it? All they're doing is yakking about their kids. It's such a bore. And then you have kids and you just want to do the same thing."

Madonna
"Humor is essential for teaching children. Children have to understand that being a good person doesn't mean you can't have fun."

Elizabeth Banks
"Be open to any help. Many moms today feel they have to be super moms, while historically we’ve always had a village to pitch in. I think it’s really important to know when to ask for help."

Faith Hill
"Before, my career came first. All I had to think about was myself. Now my children prevail. It doesn't mean my career is less important; I just have to position things differently."

Christina Aguilera
"I'm definitely an understanding mom ... but discipline is a big thing for me too. I'm not raising no brat!"

Britney Spears
"Parenting is all about history. What we as mothers are doing is creating history with our kids that we can look back on."

Cate Blanchett
"I don’t know what a normal childhood is. I think childhood is a deeply abnormal thing. I think all children have a fantasy life, and we live a kind of circus existence, but like all working parents you try and work that out by keeping things stable."

Angelina Jolie
"I would never be the kind of parent to force somebody to be something they are not – I think that is just bad parenting. Children should be allowed to express themselves in whatever way they wish without anybody judging them because it is an important part of their growth."
