Anyway, there are a lot of things I'd like to share about pregnancy, childbirth and early motherhood - I will get to that soon, insyaAllah. But first, I'd like to share with all of you my thoughts on a food tiffin delivery service that I recently discovered - Dish by Ili.
I have heard of Dish by Ili and had followed them on instagram for quite some time actually but it was only when I started watching a couple of episodes of "Diari Mangkuk Tingkat Ili" on Astro that my interest to try them out grew.
Taking care of my baby on my own after my confinement lady had left, I really don't have much time to cook, and going out with a baby just for lunch everyday is a bit of a hassle (imagine the amount of things I have to pack just for a 30 minute outing!) so the easiest solution for me would be to have food delivered to my doorstep. I usually order through the "foodpanda" app. My lunch order through the app will typically vary from Kenny Rogers, Delicious, Belanga, TGIF, mostly restaurants around my housing area but the food would normally feel "too commercial" if you know what I mean. I crave to have some good old home cooked food so I decided to try Dish by Ili.
Dish by Ili typically have different menus every week so you need to check their Facebook or Instagram account to checkout the menu for the upcoming week. They deliver every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Lunch orders will be delivered between 11am - 1pm and dinner orders between 5pm - 7pm. They also offer two tiffin sizes - Small (for 2-3 pax- RM70) and Large (4-6 pax RM140).
My very first order from them was the the Peranakan Chicken Curry set:

This is actually my first time trying a Peranakan Chicken Curry dish and I have to say it is really tasty. It tasted like a creamier version of an indian curry. Even my husband liked the dish. And since I like everything banana, the Banana Chocolate Chip cake really hit all the right notes with me. The delivery even came with a cute personalized thank you note which I thought was really cute.
Satisfied with my first order, I decided to try the Ayam Masak Kicap set the following week:

Frankly the Ayam Masak Kicap is just so-so. It is what it is - Ayam Masak Kicap. Nothing fancy there. I replaced the coffee cake with another serving of vegetable, with no extra charges, since I can't take coffee because I am breastfeeding my baby.
Even though the Ayam Masak Kicap set was just mediocre, I decided to give them another try the following week. So I ordered the 5 Spice Roast Chicken set:

The 5 Spices Roast Chicken did not disappoint. The chicken was well marinated and full of taste. It is a little bit on the spicy side - just how I like my chicken dish. The Brownies with Salted Caramel drizzle is also delicious. If it wasn't for my "no-ice-for-100-days-after-birth" diet, I would've served the brownies warmed with a few scoops of vanilla ice-cream and it will be perfect!
All in all, I am very satisfied with Dish by Ili and they're really worth trying. However, to each his own so let me list down the pros and cons for you guys to decide yourselves.
Pros:
- Excellent service - orders are made through facebook/email, prompt reply, courteous staff who will respond to your queries
- Food is tasty, clean and wholesome
- Convenient - tiffin is delivered to your doorstep
- Sustainable and environmental friendly - they use tiffin to pack their food instead of plastic containers or even worse, polysterene.
Cons:
- Slightly pricey - I have to admit RM70 for one main dish and one vege dish with a few slices of cake for 2-3 pax is a tad expensive
- You can't return the tiffin on the spot - the delivery person will not wait at your door while you transfer the food into your own containers, due to, according to them, "tight delivery schedule". They charge a deposit of RM30 for the tiffin and you have to return the tiffin to their place in Bangsar, they also offer pick-up service (with charges) or if you're a regular you can always return the tiffin when they next deliver your order.
- Limited choices of menu and days of delivery. However, you can contact them if you wish to have them cater for your small party or if you would like to have your order customized.
Till Then, Happy Eating!
